Post-partyum

In a great flurry of cleaning, de-dusting, unpacking, arranging, planning, inviting, shopping, buying, cooking, cleaning, re-arranging and decorating, Steve's 50th birthday party was achieved. All systems were go and a wonderful time was had by all the fantastic friends, superlative relatives and marvelous neighbors who attended. The food was beauteous and delicious, most of it from Fairway and Costco, blessings on them. The Most Excellent Miss Caramelita Linda was an extraordinarily well-behaved poochie and turned out to be quite the party animal despite the 40 or so guests, who themselves were delightful. Camille and JR came in from Florida and made themselves kitchen slaves. Audrey made a huge cheesecake, Tina made a huge Halloween cake, Jeanette brought a huge pie and I got a cake for 48, chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and cream cheese frosting and fudge roses. My Aunt Sarah said we had too much cake but the birthday boy said, his face aglow, it was just enough. God, I love that man.
Listen, there's tons of cake in the freezer. Came on over and have a piece!
Chris and Char couldn't attend the party cause the new baby they adopted came on Friday! She is quite the adorable dumpling. Much joy and love to them.
And Jack and Gina and Anne-Marie and Chriss, who were missed. We are both thinking about you, sending our love and hoping for a quick return to normal cells and good health.
Now it looks like life at chez lui has the potential to make the return to something close to normal, what ever that may be. At least the house is in order once again. Now I have time to consider other possibilities, including more fun for me, and well-deserving Stinky, too. I am after all, "retired" ( which is a euphemism I like to use instead of disabled) and have extra time that I would like to see better spent. Let's see how that goes.
In the meantime, we've got mondo cake, and pictures to come!!!

Broken of heart,: the World Series continues

Game 7, 9th inning, Mets at bat, bases loaded, 2 outs. No hit, no HR, no pennant, no dice, no soap radio. And now I must root for the Cardinals, the very team I despised only days ago. For I am a National League fan, born and bred. A strange phenomenon, that. The Series with Detroit is tied, 1-1. Go Red Birds!
Remember Tom Sellek in Magnum PI? He alway wore a Tigers cap. I used to think he was dreamy but now I hear he may be Charlton Heston's replacement as head of the NRA. Or is that an oxymoron?

Game 7 tonite!

I have happiness. Mets rookie pitcher John Maine totally disregarded the Cy Young award winner Carpenter last night, winning for the Mets 4-2, altho the star of the game has to be the beauteous Jose Reyes. I had heart palpitations all game long. We lost El Duque but Lo Duca came through. Two Dukes in one team! Tonight, tonight, won't be just any night.
Is there anything as stimulating as post-season baseball? When it goes 7 games? Especially with your own beloved team involved? Priceless!!!!
Since I have apparently lost my meager readership anyway,(y'all give up on me? is there no one with baseball in their blood out there?) I will indulge myself:

MEET THE METS
Words and music by Ruth Roberts and Bill Katz, 1962

MEET THE METS,
MEET THE METS,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
Bring your kiddies,
bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
because the Mets are really sockin the ball; knocking those home runs over the wall!
East side, West side,
everybody's coming down
to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!

Yeah, baby!
Meanwhile, Tigers are burning bright the jungles of Detroit, licking their chops and waiting to pounce on the victors of tonight's game.

Walk your dog, not Alberto Pujols

This is was sign held by a fan at Busch stadium last night. Cardinal Power slugger Pujols has been routinely walked to avoid hitting home runs. This strategy failed last night when he got a winning run. After using 67 pitchers, the final was 4-2. It was my fault, I shouldn't have said anything about Glavine, who gave up 3 runs in 4 innings. I put the hoodoo on it. Tonight, the Mets are back home for game 6. Twenty years ago I got married and the Mets won the World Serious. Both these events had wonderful and far-reaching implications. But my marriage is forever, championship titles are not. May the gods of baseball, in their infinite wisdom, smile upon us who are so pathetically loyal and deserving. It's really hard for me to stay up as late as is necessary to watch these games. But like an AL pitcher at bat, I'm willing to make sacrifices.

Rainout / Cosmic Trigger Event today

There was a monsoon in St Louis so no NLCS game 5. last night. But we are likin' this "Studio 60" show and find it to be quite amusing. If only Aaron Sorkin scripted the real world!
Nelson, our wood guy didn't show. I called, he said he forgot about me. Nice.
The cleaner showed but had a bit of an attitude.I must have imagined all those tissues.(If you know me even a little, you know that tissues are a recurring theme, a leitmtoif as it were, in my life.)
I was going to bitch and complain today but I am actually too blue to work up much outrage. Feh, I'm sad and disgusted and overwhelmed. Hey, that's bitching, as opposed to bitchin' which is another story. I just realized that today is 2 years since I broke my wrist. The date, rain and the 9 screws in my arm reminded me. Long story short: Earlier that day, wake for a friend. That night, bad sidewalk, very dark street, I tripped and I flew. I achieved a 4 point landing on each hand, my left knee and the right side of my head. We sued the rat bastards and they settled just last week, for less, my lawyer said, then we could have gotten. But I don't care. I just want to be done with it. It was horrible. Twilight Zone horrible. Two years ago, so much has happened. Unbelievably, Steve got flak at work because left to pick me up from the hospital. He told them to take the job and shove it which was lucky cause I couldn't walk for several weeks and needed someone to bathe, groom, walk, feed, and take me to hand therapy. HISTORICAL NOTE: It was during this time that Steve, sole practioner and master of the kitchen, honed his technique and went from very good cook to great cook. He intoxicated me with culinary treats and I had to ask myself, why the heck should I do what he does so well? It is only the novelty and enticement of my new kitchen that has lured me back into cooking. That, and I"m the only one who knows where anything is. Location of equipment is subject to change!

So A friend in Israel sent an email about the Cosmic Trigger event. Here, the gist of it:

All we ask is positive thoughts of love, prosperity, healing, wealth, kindness, gratitude be focused on.

This UV beam comes into full affect for 17 hrs on the 17th of October 2006. No matter what time zone you are in the hours are approximately 10:17 am on the 17th of October to 1:17 am on the 18th October. The peak time will be 17:10 (5:10 pm) on the 17th October. You do not need to be in a meditative state through out this time, though would be beneficial. The main key time no matter what time zone you are in will be the peak time of 17:10 (5:10 pm).

It doesn't make time zone sense but you know, what could be bad about everyone thinking good thoughts all day? We all need some good vibrations, no?
If you have any to spare, send them out to my lovely friend and ex-neighbor who would do anything for anybody, Anne-Marie. She was recently and suddenly dx'd with lymphoma. Here she is with my darling Peanut, who used to hang out in my backyard before they moved away.

Be one with the cosmos!
Supress those negative thoughts.
Send out the love, folks.
Think thoughts of peace and joy.

Life is fucking scary.
