Although I long to go to Wisconsin, as my dear brother emailed to point out in yesterdays post, the Giants are not playing the Packers who they of course, already beat to get to the Super Bowl. NY will be playing the New England Patriots and as you may not know (or not care about) there is an intense and unnatural, insidious rivalry between NY and MA, probably started with the Babe's curse. Huh, they think they are all that because they won the World Series.
I did not see the Dem debate last night because it was only on CNN and we don't have cable. It was broadcast from Hollywood and there were many celebrities in the audience. The Times reported that scalpers were getting $1000 a ticket to get in. This is a Democratic-populist party? Feh!
I am still torn about my vote come Tuesday's primary. Obama is the young shining knight but I, to quote the Rolling Stones, have seen to much in too few years and I know idealism doesn't last long in politics. Clinton has the years, experience and contacts but I hated that she voted for the war and I'm not sure if I trust her. We've got to get out of Iraq we need a candidate who will redirect some of those war billions home to supplement the cuts to Medicare and Medicaid and education.
On the other hand, I am excited and gratified to be thrust on the horns of a dilemma of this nature. As a kid I remember how in 1960 it was so extraordinary that a Catholic JFK was running for President. It only took 48 years for us to get to the point where a woman and a black man are contenders! Slow progress but progress nonetheless. It gives one a little hope for the future.
Tomorrow we are going to a performance and celebration of the 20th anniversary. of Covenant Dance Theater which is run by my former ballet teacher, Marla. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone but it's kind of shocking that so many "kids" are now grown-up professionals. Time, it goes by fast man!
